You’ve probably heard the term “growth mindset” a thousand times on Instagram, in coaching spaces, or from your favorite podcast host who swears she manifested a 7-figure month while journaling in a robe.
Cute. But what does it actually mean?
And more importantly: what does it mean for you and your relationship with money?
Let’s talk about it.
First, what is a “growth mindset” — really?
A growth mindset is the belief that your abilities, skills, and circumstances can improve with effort, learning, and the right support.
It’s not toxic positivity.
It’s not pretending things are okay when they’re not.
It’s not about faking confidence or pretending to love spreadsheets.
It’s about believing in your capacity to grow — even when it feels slow, scary, or uncertain.
A fixed mindset, on the other hand, is that voice that says:
“I’ve always been bad with money.”
“I’ll never figure this out.”
“People like me don’t get to have more.”
Sound familiar? Yeah. Same, girl.
Fixed vs. Growth Mindset (Real-Life Examples)
Here’s how it tends to show up — and how you can start shifting it:
Fixed Mindset Thought | → | Growth Mindset Reframe |
“I’m just bad with money.” | → | “I’m learning how to manage money in a way that supports me.” |
“I’ll never make enough.” | → | “I haven’t figured it out yet, but I’m open to new possibilities.” |
“Others can do this, not me.” | → | “If it’s possible for her, it’s possible for me too.” |
“I always screw this up.” | → | “Every mistake gives me more clarity for next time.” |
“I’ll fail if I try.” | → | “Success is built on trying, learning, and trying again.” |
Each reframe is a micro-expansion.
It doesn’t mean you’ll suddenly have millions in your bank account tomorrow. It means you’re creating space for new outcomes to be possible. And that’s where everything begins.
Growth Mindset Activation: Your Practice Starts Here
If you’re ready to start shifting, here’s a simple but powerful way to begin: get curious about your own patterns.
Because awareness is the first step to rewiring.
Try These Journal Prompts:
- “Where in my life am I assuming change isn’t possible for me?”
- “What’s one belief about money that no longer serves me — and what could I believe instead?”
- “What’s something I’m avoiding out of fear I’ll fail?”
- “What would it feel like to trust that my growth is inevitable?”
You don’t have to write a novel. Just start. One line. One truth. One new thought.
Or Repeat These Growth-Minded Affirmations:
- “I trust myself to learn, grow, and rise.”
- “I am open to doing money differently.”
- “My past doesn’t define my potential.”
- “I get to rewrite the rules — and still win.”
